Vita

Marcello Barbanera is Professor of Archaeology and History of Greek and Roman Art in the Department of Classical Studies at the University La Sapienza of Rome. He has spent periods of study in Paris with Alain Schnapp (La Sorbonne 1997), Berlin with Adolf H. Borbein (Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Freie Universität 1998 and 2005) and New York (The Italian Academy, Columbia University, 1999). Visiting professor in Paris (Ecole des Hautes Etudes 1997 and Institut d'Histoire de l'Art 2006), in 2008 was appointed "Kress Lecturer" for the Archaeological Institute of America, which is a member of. He is corresponding member of the German Archaeological Institute. His research activity is oriented towards the history of archaeology, Greek sculpture, the methodology of art history, the history of collecting and archeology of ancient Greece.

 

Forschungsschwerpunkte

Definition of the divine and mythical spheres of reference to creativity in Greece; Exploration of the figure of the artist/artisan in ancient Greece from the Homeric period to the end of Hellenism; Art display in museums; History of Italian Archaeology; Trasmission of images from Ancient to Modern Art.
